# Publish Help Center content in multiple languages

> Enable languages, translate collections and articles, and publish each translation separately.

Use separate article and collection translations to provide help in each language your customers use. Enabling a language does not translate existing content or publish it automatically.

Workspace Owners and Admins manage Help Center languages and content.

## Enable a language

1. Open **Help Center → Customize → Languages**.
2. Choose a language under **Add language**, then add it.
3. Select **Save changes**.
4. Select the language you want to edit, open **Identity**, and enter its Help Center name and description. Check the **Editing** language before saving.

The default language is the visitor fallback. Changing it is not a translation operation. A live Help Center needs at least one published article in its default language before you can save that configuration.

## Translate collections first

1. Use the edit control beside a collection in the Help Center sidebar.
2. Select the target **Language**. A missing translation is marked **Not translated**.
3. Enter the translated name, URL slug, and description, then select **Save collection**.
4. Repeat for the collections that will contain articles in that language.

Articles can only be assigned to collections without child collections. The destination collection also needs a translation in the article's language. If it is missing from the article's collection selector, check both conditions.

## Create an article translation

1. Open the source article from **Articles**.
2. In **Language**, choose the target language. An existing translation opens its own editor; a language without one starts a new translation.
3. Translate the title, short description, and complete body. Review links, examples, and terminology as well as the main text.
4. Check the target language, collection, URL slug, tags, and Featured setting.
5. Keep **Status: Draft** while reviewing and select **Create article**.
6. Preview the translation, then publish it when it is ready.

The new translation begins with a copy of the source content, not an automatic translation. It starts as a draft and may have no collection if the source collection lacks the target-language translation. Each article translation has its own publication state; publishing English does not publish another language.

## Check the public result

Open the public Help Center and select the language you published. Confirm that the collection name, article title, body, and links are correct. Check the language in the article address when sharing a link. Do not assume that a working link in one language proves that another translation is available.

## Change or remove a language

You cannot remove the current default language without first choosing another default. Protodesk also prevents removing a language while articles still use it, including drafts. Unpublishing an article does not remove its language association.

Review the affected content before making a removal plan; do not delete articles merely to make the language control available. Keep the language enabled if you still need its articles.
