# Understand AI credits

> Check your shared workspace balance, review action estimates, and follow actual AI usage.

AI credits measure AI-powered work in your Protodesk workspace. Teammates share the workspace balance. Reading conversations and writing manual replies do not consume AI credits.

## Check your balance

Open **Evelin AI → Usage** to review your available balance, usage, and credit transactions. Use **Settings → Billing** for your workspace's plan and available billing options.

Use the estimate displayed for the action you are about to run. Different AI workflows can have different costs; do not assume that every request or every suggested reply has the same price. Actual usage is shown in the product's usage records.

## If credits run out

Metered AI work may be unavailable until your workspace has enough credits. Your team can continue using Threads and manual replies. Check your balance and the available purchase or plan options before repeatedly retrying an AI request.

## Keep usage predictable

1. Check **Usage** regularly.
2. Make sure knowledge sources are ready before repeating tests.
3. Use **Playground** with a few representative questions to find documentation problems.
4. Review automation scope and budgets before activation.
5. Compare unexpected usage with the work shown in **Monitor**.

Billing permissions and available purchase options depend on your workspace. Use the live Usage and Billing screens for current balances, allocations, and prices rather than an old copied price list.
