# Protodesk MCP

> Connect AI assistants to workspace operations and Help Center authoring.

Protodesk supports two MCP workflows. Choose the one that matches the work you want your assistant to do.

| Workflow | Connection | Authentication | What it does |
| - | - | - | - |
| Hosted operational MCP | Streamable HTTP | Browser OAuth or a scoped workspace API key | Work with customers, conversations, recorded messages, and webhooks |
| Help Center authoring | Local stdio adapter; authoring tools also available through hosted MCP with an eligible key | Explicitly delegated Help Center API key | Read articles and propose content for human review |

## Hosted workspace operations

Use `https://api.protodesk.io/mcp` with an OAuth-compatible remote MCP client. Sign in, choose a workspace where you are an owner or admin, and approve only the permissions you need. Your connection lists only the tools those permissions allow.

Start with [Connect to hosted MCP](/mcp/connect) for setup, scopes, connection management, and current client requirements.

Operational write tools make changes immediately. Read `workspace_context` before writing and confirm the intended workspace. The `create_message` tool records a message; it does not send it through an email or messaging channel.

## Help Center authoring

The authoring workflow can read article summaries and full articles, submit proposed updates, propose sets of new articles when supported, and track review status.

Submitting a proposal does not change a canonical article. A person reviews it in Protodesk. Approving a new article candidate creates an unpublished draft. Approving an update to a published article changes its live content.

Authoring tools cannot approve, publish, or delete articles, and do not read private Knowledge sources. OAuth does not include authoring permissions in this release. Use a delegated Help Center API key and follow [authoring setup](/mcp/setup), the [tool reference](/mcp/tools), and the [review workflow](/mcp/review-workflow).

<Note>
  Mintlify's MCP services manage or search documentation. They are separate from Protodesk's workspace MCP and do not grant access to your workspace.
